Turn your unused tub into a real walk-in shower in about a week.

If nobody in your house has taken a bath in three years, the tub is just eating floor space. A conversion swaps it for a proper walk-in shower — safer to step into, easier to clean, and often the highest-impact single change you can make to an older bathroom.

What "tub-to-shower conversion" means

The old alcove tub comes out. The three-wall tub surround comes off. The plumbing gets re-routed for a shower valve. New waterproofing goes on the walls and floor of the shower area. New tile, a proper shower pan (or curbless base), a glass panel or door, and a new fixture set go in. When we're done you have a real walk-in shower — not a "tub with a door bolted to it."

Two ways we do it in Columbus homes

  • Standard curbed conversion — a low tile curb replaces the tub wall. Cleanest, most cost-effective, and works in every home.
  • Curbless conversion — the shower floor is flush with the bathroom floor. Sleeker, safer, and wheelchair-accessible. It's the more involved option: it requires either recessing the subfloor (framed floors) or a slab cut (slab-on-grade homes).

What we install

  • Full removal and disposal of the old tub, valve, drain, and surround.
  • Rework of the drain and shower valve plumbing to current code.
  • New waterproofing membrane (Schluter Kerdi, Wedi, or equivalent) — never a "just replace the drywall" cheap job.
  • New shower pan or fully mudded curbless base sloped to a center or linear drain.
  • Custom tile: subway, 12x24 large-format, mosaic accents, full-height or three-quarter.
  • Glass panel (single-panel splash guard) or full glass door.
  • New shower valve, showerhead, and (optional) hand-held.
  • Optional tiled niche and/or bench.
  • Permits pulled with Muscogee, Harris, or Russell County as required.

Timeline: one to two weeks

  1. Day 1 — Demo, tub out, plumbing rework, first inspection scheduled.
  2. Day 2–3 — Waterproofing, shower pan or base, cure time.
  3. Day 4–5 — Tile installation.
  4. Day 6 — Grout, sealing, punch-list; glass measured.
  5. Day 10 (approx.) — Glass installed, final walk-through, warranty paperwork.

Why homeowners in Columbus, Midland, and Phenix City ask for this

  • Nobody in the household uses the tub anymore.
  • The step-over is getting hard for older parents or a spouse.
  • The bathroom feels cramped — a walk-in shower gains usable floor space.
  • The tub surround is dated builder-grade acrylic that looks tired and yellows.
  • Aging-in-place planning — trading a step-over tub for a walk-in shower is one of the highest-impact safety upgrades in an older home.

What about resale?

Common myth: "every home needs a tub for resale." In practice, buyers care that there's at least one tub in the house — usually in the hall bath for kids or guests. If you have that, converting the master or hall bath's tub to a shower doesn't hurt resale, and often helps it (walk-in showers are what most buyers actually want).
